FUTURE MISSIONARY PILOTS - FINISHING THEIR TRAINING
The reason ServantWings exists.

Eric & Kristine Reed

We joined Servant Wings in 2008 to help Eric build the flight time and experience he needs to join Mission Aviation Fellowship as a Pilot/IT combo. Eric has his commercial license and finished his instrument rating with Servant Wings. Eric attended Portland Community College to complete a few IT (Informational Technology) courses.  Kristine has her teaching degree and hopes to use it in the future on the field. We just welcomed into the world our darling daughter Jennavieve Elizabeth on Sept. 12, 2010. We are excited to be part of ServantWings because it not only allows Eric to build flight and mechanical experience, but also puts us in touch with a great group of mentors to help us along the path to missions. We passed our technical evaluation with MAF and are invited back for the July candidacy. After candidacy we'll be officially missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship.  We encourage you to check out our website at http://reednewsletter.blogspot.com/ for current information and if you are on Facebook look up: 'The Reed's Journey to Mission Aviation' and add us!

I joined Servant wings in 2009 to gain the flight training and mechanical experience needed to apply to MAF as a pilot/mechanic candidate. I chose Servant Wings because in my opinion they: flat out offer the best mentorship, accountability, training and overall guidance out of any other flight training organization I’ve seen available in the area.  They also have a strong focus on Christ and goal of prepping students to join a mission aviation organization. Currently I am wrapping up my private pilot’s license (this fall) and plan to continue to work towards my commercial license and instrument rating. Starting January 2010 I will attend PCC Hillsboro’s A&P program to work on my mechanic skills.

I have always had a passion for flying, but I am continually in awe of where God has taken me in this journey. After high school, I applied to the Air Force Academy - four years, two community colleges, and two states later, I was attending Multnomah Bible College instead. Over that time, God grew an incredible desire in me to serve as a Missionary Aviator. I am with Servant Wings because of their excellent tailored flight training for the missions field as I hope to join MAF and serve where needed. I am currently working on that goal by continuing at my A&P mechanic school and some flight training as of this August. All during which, I am working on raising support to fund the required flight time.

Mike and Angie Johnson

Angie and I joined Servant Wings in the Fall of 2009.  We have a 2 year old son and a newborn baby girl.  Angie is able to stay at home with the two kids and watches our niece part time.  Her flexibility and understanding have been invaluable as I continue my training.  I am an aircraft mechanic at a local regional airline.  A week before we welcomed out little girl into the world, I passed my Instrument rating check-ride -- another hurdle on the way to becoming a missionary pilot. Now onto the commercial rating and building time.  Servant Wings has been a great avenue to finish the rest of my training as well as gaining more maintenance experience on the Cessna 206 which I hope to fly and maintain on the field.  Along with gaining more experience myself I have been able to share some of my experience with the other candidates.  Besides technical training Servant Wings has been provided us with great mentors who are able to share their experiences and encourage us along the way.  We both share a love of everything aviation and look forward to serving God in this field.  We are seeking God's guidance as to which organization he would have us join.

A number of years ago, a man from Wycliffe Bible Translators came to my church to talk about missionary aviation. Flight had always interested me and the idea of using airplanes to serve God and other people seemed like a really good career to me. However, I thought that I could never be able to learn how to fly and decided to go to college and find a “normal” job. After two years at Washington State and several changes of major, I was no closer to figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. I remembered the pilot who came to my church and, after much prayer and research, decided to give it a shot. After I started flying, I joined Servant Wings because the quality of instruction and the mentorship they offer will get me started on the right path. I’ve only just begun my private pilot training, but I’m excited to see where God will take me.

The Ekle Family

In 2006 our life story changed dramatically after we made the decision to share Jesus’ love & compassion by way of Missions Aviation. This type of non-profit ministry provides for both physical and spiritual needs of people groups who are only accessible by air. In pursuit of this dream we sold our home and moved from Nashville, Tennessee to Portland, Oregon for me (Pete) to attend Multnomah Bible University. In 2009, after earning my Aviation Mechanic Certifications, I was quickly hired on to work for Columbia Helicopters Inc. where I currently work when not in class. Betsy is continuing into her 11th year of teaching just across the river in Vancouver, Washington. She also leads a women’s life group with Mosaic Church & has picked up painting. We both also participate in & have a growing passion for Recovery & Restoration ministry work. When we moved to Portland we knew going back to school, with kids, in a new city meant we would face many challenges. Our time in Portland has been invaluable as God has used the people and ministries here in this region to illuminate areas in us that need refinement and have given opportunities for personal growth. God has been enormously faithful to us these 4 years in more ways than we could even begin to account for in a letter.  I’m excited to join Servant Wings for my flight training as it will give me a solid foundation as a missionary bush pilot.
