Pilots

Joshua Deppe

I’m a bit of an adventurous young man and I enjoy serving others in practical ways. I’ve been interested in flying since I was young and mission aviation seems like an awesome way that I can utilize my skills for God’s glory. I also like to explore, hang out with friends, and just enjoy life in general. Just recently I obtained my A&P certificates as an aircraft mechanic and I’m excited to be working on my pilot’s licenses. It’s been awesome to see God leading me this far and I can’t wait to see what He has in store for me in the future.

Josh completely his pilot training in October 2018. Congratulations Josh!

Peter & Miriam De Winkle
Answering God's call to go into Mission Aviation has been an exciting step for our family. We moved from the family farm in Idaho to enter into a new life of missions. Peter has been studying Aviation Maintenance Technologies as well as flying several days a week. Along with Peter's busy schedule and keeping up with our four kids we will also be starting our Bible classes. We have been enjoying the beautiful hiking spots, gorgeous beaches, and exploring all the new places Oregon has to offer. We are excited to see where God takes us, and thankful for His guidance in our lives up until this point!

A number of years ago, a man from Wycliffe Bible Translators came to my church to talk about missionary aviation. Flight had always interested me and the idea of using airplanes to serve God and other people seemed like a really good career to me. However, I thought that I could never be able to learn how to fly and decided to go to college and find a "normal" job. After two years at Washington State and several changes of major, I was no closer to figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. I remembered the pilot who came to my church and, after much prayer and research, decided to give it a shot. After I started flying, I joined Servant Wings because the quality of instruction and the mentor-ship they offer will get me started on the right path. I've only just begun my private pilot training, but I'm excited to see where God will take me.
Samueal Rezene

My name is Samueal Rezene. My wife Deborah and I have served at a church in Portland for the past three years. Serving  as a Youth pastor and my wife as a children’s ministry director. We love seeking the Kingdom of God whether it be through serving in a church, participating in a ministry or simply going out to evangelize on the streets of Portland and Vancouver. Which is why we want to serve in the mission field, to spread The Gospel. With that came the inspiration to be a missionary pilot, to fly for the mission field. Praise God. Just finishing the FAA written test and my Solo flight, the next step is practicing in the air and preparing for the certification check ride. God has deeply blessed me. I was raised in a household where He is worshiped and where His word is honored. My prayer is that God will use me in the lives of many other people to show them how they can have the same comfort and peace that comes from knowing Jesus Christ and worshiping Him as Savior and Lord. I first decided to use aviation as a tool to do that before I had even entered my teenage years and have since been training to gain the necessary skills to become an effective tool in my Father's hands. I now count it a privilege to be among many other like-minded Christians at Servant Wings who are driven by the same goal of knowing Christ at a deeper level and making Him known.

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a pilot. I am the grateful progeny of Wycliffe missionary parents in the erstwhile Hindu kingdom of Nepal and the frequent air travel that is second nature to missionary kid only served to fuel my passion for aviation. My upbringing also developed a deep longing to see the reality-shifting Gospel of King Jesus known among all people in all nations. I currently live and work in Vancouver – I try and fly as often as time and resources allow but whenever I’m not working or in the air I am in the great outdoors, enjoying the incredibly beauty that the Northwest has to offer.

RaeAnne and I are excited to be able to use our vocational passions to spread the Good News! We met at a small Christian high school in Upstate New York during the three years my dad was stationed in the area. While she spent two years on mission trips in China with Campus Target, I began the path towards Missionary Aviation by going to Multnomah University. Rae moved to Portland in 2010 and we got married in 2011. Since then, Rae worked her way from CNA to graduating OHSU with a Bachelor’s in Nursing and works at the VA hospital. I am currently working on my Instrument Ratings with a goal to join MAF by 2020.
